How to choose your perfect diamond?

There are four simple characteristics know as the 4 C’s which will determine the perfect diamond for you.

The four C’s
1. Cut
2. Colour
3. Clarity
4. Carat

1. Cut

A good cut will emphasize the beauty of the diamond and is key to its beautiful effects.  A diamond can be cut into many different shapes suiting everyone’s needs.  These shapes are as follows.

All aspects of the 4 C’s will affect the overall outcome of the diamond and each shape should be cut to the perfect proportions.   A diamond is at its best when it is ideally cut (this maximizes the reflection of light within it).  If it is not cut properly it will appear to be dull and will not sparkle as much.

2. Color

Diamonds can differ in colour with the best ones appearing to be naturally colourless, these types of diamonds are the most precious as they are rarer then the other diamonds while others are not colourless.  Diamonds are classed on colour from a scale of D - Z.  This is shown below.

Other fancy colour diamonds are available and coloured diamonds are graded according to different colour scales to white diamonds.

3. Clarity

Again diamonds can differ in clarity and it is also a natural qulaity of a diamond. The clearer the diamond the more rare it is.  Diamonds are classed on clarity as shown below.

4. Carat

Carat is how the dimension a diamond is determined, it is a weight.  A weight may refer to one diamond or the total amount of numerous diamonds on a single item.
